Ash Roy May Playlist

[Artists, Recent Event Videos]

Ash Roy is the co-founder of Soupherb records and before they folded, one of the founding members of India’s most prolific dance music act, Jalebee Cartel. Besides curating music for his label and producing music himself, Ash is currently one of the country’s most bankable DJs, throwing in memorable sets at various venues across the country. It explains why Hennessy artistry received this very personal playlist from Ash on the back of a gig in Assam, perhaps the last frontier for electronic music, where he’s already laying the foundations for the next big scene. Catch him playing alongside Guillaume and the Coutu Dumonts in Bangalore next Friday as Hennessy artistry returns to the garden city.

Pink Floyd – The Wall

This was given to me by my dad when I was really young. It was a cassette and the first track was The Wall. My dad was a fan of Floyd and after I heard it I became a fan.

Kraftwerk – The Man-Machine

[text_postThis song was my introduction to electronic music. I'd have to say this one was because of my mother. I remember she used to play this at home and I would dance to it. That's where it all began.[/text_post]

text_post]Josh Wink – Higher State of Consciousness[/text_post]
[The acid techno sound that Mr. Wink introduced was when I started taking Djing seriously. This is what changed my way of thinking.

Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence

The reason I did Jalebee Cartel was because I wanted to have a band of my own like Depeche Mode. They are one of my favourites.

Jalebee Cartel – Tough Cookie

The video was made by our very good friend Mr. Bharat Sikka. His first shot at making a video and it was spectacular.

The Chemical Brothers – Block Rockin’ Beats

As a DJ, I grew up listening to these guys and playing their records and then finally I get to perform at Future Music Festival where they were headlining. I heard them play live and I met them…that was an experience.

Underworld – Born Slippy

I must say I was introduced to these guys by Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj. I came to Delhi back in the day for a holiday and they were like, “Listen to shit, brotha.”

Jalebee Cartel – Angels Deserve to Die

This one is dedicated to my band-mates because they were my inspiration. Thank you for an excellent journey.
