Soulmate April Playlist

[Artists]

Inspired by the roots and groove sounds of the blues, blues-rock, soul, rock ‘n roll, funk and R&B, Soulmate is Rudy Wallang and Tipriti Kharbangar. Together the duo made the shortlist from India for last year’s Hennessy Talent Quest competition and won an opportunity to play at the Blues Passions Festival in Cognac. The duo has been around for over a decade playing gigs across India and abroad. Notably, they have done sell-out shows at the Kennedy Center, in Washington DC during the Maximum India Festival, a four-city tour of Norway, played alongside John Mayall and Gary Clark Jr at the Jakarta International Blues Festival and most recently alongside Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal and John Lee Hooker Jr at the Mahindra Blues fest last year. Rudy Wallang took time out to give Hennessy artistry ten tunes to latch on to as this year’s Hennessy Talent Quest zeroes in on its list of finalists.
‪ The Beatles – Love me do
The Beatles made me want to be a musician, even though I was six years old when I first heard them.

‪

Elvis Presley  – Blue Suede Shoes‬

This tune was my introduction to rock & roll and the blues.

Tom Jones – Green Green Grass Of Home

It reminds me of my Dad because he loved this song and he used to sing it with his band.

Carlos Santana – Black Magic Woman

This song changed my life and made me want to play guitar.

Steely Dan‬ – Aja

I used to sit down for hours and play along with this album.. almost knew all the guitar solos/melodies.

Roy Buchanan – The Messiah Will Come Again

Roy is and always will be one of the main influences in my approach to guitar playing!

Albert Collins – All About My Girl

Albert Collin’s guitar-tone killed me then and still does till this day!! He blew me away! This album was my soul food for a very long time.

Phoebe Snow – Let The Good Times Roll

Phoebe Snow was and will always be one of my favourite female vocalists. The cassette tape that I had of this album was worn thin from the number of times I played it.

Bob Marley – Kaya

Bob Marley, the prophet; he influenced me in a big way…my life and everything. No morning was right without playing Bob Marley.

Van Morrison – Caravan

This man blew me away with this song he did with the band for The Last Waltz. I love the way he sings and phrases his lines.
