When the Atlantic plays the Arabian, it sounds like M.Mat. Funk, techno, house and old-school anthems – M.Mat’s all smooth tropical surface and roiling, churning beats played for India’s best parties and partiers since 2001. After bringing Fresh Air to Delhi a decade ago with Fresh Air, M.Mat brought the sound south with Bhavishyavani Future Soundz. Joining forces with the city’s best DJs, M.Mat has helped put Mumbai on the international music map, bringing some of the world’s best DJs to India’s biggest city and playing with the likes of Laurent Garnier, MANDY, Chloe, Talvin Singh and Midival Punditz. Now he’s lighting up the shore between Bombay and Goa, and bringing the party inland to Bangalore and Delhi. And M.Mat took time out to give Hennessy Artistry fans a playlist that ranges from oddball-Hamburg producer DJ Koze to Detroit legend Rick Wade.

DJ Koze – Mariposa

It’s not the most recent work from the mighty Koze (whose album ‘Amygdala’ is due later this month), but I rediscovered it while digging for old tracks recently, on my hard drive. Surprisingly, lots of tunes tend to get lost in this age of digital file archiving.

The Sorry Entertainers – The End of All Times

I like the gypsy feel of the track, which was found on a night of lonely Youtube surfing.

Pollyn – Sometimes You Just Know (DJ Harvey remix)

This one’s a great disco-ish remix from DJ Harvey.  The tune has this summer-by- the-poolside with hot women in the jacuzzi kind of vibe.

Lausen – Anti Static

Here’s an old school acid techno banger because you always need a banger.

Ricardo Villalobos – Hansup

I got ‘Hansup’ stuck in my head for the entire duration of the weekend after hearing it at a friend’s party…

Rick Wade – Vanguard Cinema

Released on Bhavishyavani collaborator, Andy Vaz’s Cologne-based Yore label, Detroit legend Rick Wade chips in with this funky deep house classic…
