[Artists, Events]

Watching India’s most sough after DJs, Arjun Vagale, drop one of his consistently excellent techno sets, you would never guess that the pioneering artist was at one point in his career a “big metal head”. Vagale said that during this phase he consumed everything from Iron Maiden to Pantera and Metallica.

Vagale moved on to electronic music in the ‘90s when the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers made waves with their music and exemplary live music performances. The producer-DJ has since moved on to be as influential to the Indian scene as the artists he was listening to back then. During the early days of his career, Vagale said that he had to look within himself to find the artist waiting to leap out. Among the DJ’s careers he looked to for direction was British sensation Sasha who he said was a massive figure in my life. “I really studied him, his music and his style” said Vagale.

Today, he looks up DJs like Richie Hawtin, Nic Fanciulli and Marco Corola. It’s a far cry from the earliest memory Vagale has of him playing the toy guitar at the age of seven with the band at the hotel his father worked in.
