Influences- Kris Correya

[Artists, Discovery, Recent Event Audios, Recent Event Videos]

Talking about the influences of an artist is always our favourite section of an interview ,same goes for our artists ! Thinking back to the music that influenced them when they were teenagers always seems to make people smile . They laugh about  misguided fads at the time. Then promptly, even if a bit sheepishly, refuse to let us include it in our feature. Mostly though it is an honest education in good music. Our time with Kris Correya of the BBC was all of these things and more.

“Inspiration comes from a very broad spectrum of genres from funk to soul , drum n bass to techno ,glitch hop to dubstep. Also within dance music finding grooves & beats that are experimental & beyond the regular time signatures is very interesting.” Kris told us of the music  he draws inspiration from. We soon got talking about the artists that influenced him growing up. “Ah the usual, most of Hospital Records, Plastikman, Fat Boy Slim, Photek, Radioactive Man, LTJ Bukem, Mala, Plump Dj’s…” What we really wanted to know though was the artists that influence Kris’s/BBC’s playlists today. Are there tracks that almost always featured in their sets? “Not all the time, but there are favourites like Lynx (Disco Dodo), Toasty (The Knowledge), Mala & a lot of the older Bassnectar stuff that we retain in our crates to just drop at that very special time if needed.”

In Bangalore  this April  we were told that the sounds of Kris’s favourite new artists are creeping into his sets. Think future garage innovators like FaltyDL, Rockwell, Nymfo, Shed, the British electronic duo Mount Kimbie , well, the list goes on & on…… This Saturday(9th April 2011), LIVE at i-Bar, the Park Bangalore  Kris Correya with DJ Uri & Suman Sridhar plan to put on a heck of a show for friends and fans of the Hennessy Artistry Project.
